OUR FEES ARE CHANGING
Dear patients, from January 2023, MyHealth Newington will transition to private billing. See ‘Our Fees’ section below for more details.
Myhealth Newington opened its doors in June 2013, having taken over Newington Family Medical Practice. Our practice is in a central area of Newington opposite the Newington marketplace shopping centre, conveniently located for local residents and businesses. There is free 2 hour ticketed parking available over the road. The in-house services within Myhealth Newington include Pathology, Physiotherapy, Dietician Services, Podiatry and Psychology.
Douglas Hanley Moir Pathology : Monday – Friday 8am – 4pm, Sat 9am -12 midday
Physiotherapy : Monday- Friday 8am – 5:30 pm
Dietician : Wednesday (fortnightly) 9am – 2pm
Podiatry : Tuesday 8am – 12 midday, Thursday 8am – 5pm, Saturday 8am – 2pm [monthly]
Psychology : Monday 8am – 5pm, Tuesday 10am – 4.30pm
Our practice nurse is available from 9am-4pm weekdays for childhood immunisations and procedures. Certain procedures incur a gap fee that reception or the doctor can advise you prior to your booking. Consultations are generally by appointment only, we will try our best to accommodate walk-in consultations however if all doctors are fully booked you may be asked to return at another time if there is no availability.
For your added convenience we also accept online bookings for standard consultations. For extended consultations (where there is more than 1 matter, or a complex matter to discuss) or consultations requiring treatment room/nurse please contact reception by telephone directly on 9648224 to book.
Please do not present to the practice in-person if you have COVID-19 and instead book a Telehealth consultation. For patients with any cold or flu symptoms (e.g. runny nose, congestion, sore throat, cough, fever), please have your negative COVID test taken in the past 24 hours ready to show reception at check in. If you do not have a negative COVID RAT test you will be asked to return after doing your test.
We have a strict cancellation policy and by booking an appointment you are agreeing to this policy. If you do not attend your appointment and reception are not notified of a cancellation by the morning of the appointment, it will be recorded as a missed appointment. After 3 missed appointments you will be charged a $50 fee and will not be able to book any subsequent appointments until the fee is paid. Missed appointments will stay on your file for 1 year. Please see reception for full details, allied health providers have their own policies in place.
Myhealth Newington will transition to private billing from January 2023 onwards. Our practice fee schedule for both in-person and Telehealth consultations will conform to the Australian Medical Association recommended fee schedule for patients aged 18-64.
|Time||AMA Fee||Medicare Rebate||Out of pocket after Rebate|
The following patients are eligible for a reduced gap of $30 during weekdays ONLY:
- Patients aged under 18
- Patients aged 65 or over
- Patients with Health Care or Pensioner Concession cards
Please note that chronic disease management plans, COVID-19 immunisations and influenza immunisations will continue to be bulk-billing for all patients with no out of pocket gap. Dr Pillay and Dr Ma will continue to bulk-bill patients <18, >65 or health care card/concession card holders for in-person appointments and charge a reduced out of pocket gap of $30 for all other patients. In addition, Dr James Shin will Bulk Bill patients under the age of 18.
Please ensure you book a long appointment for multiple or complex issues so the correct time can be allocated to address all your concerns thoroughly, please be aware that standard consultation bookings are allocated 15 minutes; long consultations are allocated 30 minutes. For childhood immunisations and procedural consultations e.g. ear syringing, implanon insertion, dressing changes please book via telephone only so reception can confirm treatment room and nurse availability.
Please ask reception if you need further clarification of practice fees or expected out of pocket expenses. Please be aware that as per Medicare rules you will need to pay for the whole consultation upfront including the $30 gap/ AMA Fees and you will be refunded the Medicare rebate component. If you bring your Savings or Cheque bank card you will be able to get your Medicare rebate instantly, otherwise a receipt will be provided to you for you to claim from Medicare.
We are very committed to providing high quality care to our patients and community. The reason for the introduction of a gap fee for some patients is the rising costs of running a general practice and the reluctance of the government in funding these higher costs.
Medicare automatically keeps a record of your out of pocket expenses every calendar year and once you exceed the threshold you will receive a higher rebate, with Medicare covering 80% of your out of pocket expenses/gap fees. If you register and link your family together, the gap fees for everyone will all count towards the thresholds below.
|Concession card holders/eligible for Family tax benefit A :||$770.30|
For example, after meeting the Medicare safety net, the AMA standard consultation fee of $89.00 with $49.25 gap/out of pocket will be reduced to $9.85.
