Notice to Patients

Due to unforeseen staffing shortages within our reception team, our temporary opening hours are:

Monday to Friday: 8:00am - 4:00pm

Saturday: 9:00am - 3:00pm

For patients attending Newington Dental Care (located on Level 2) with appointments after 4:00pm, please contact 9748 8300 upon your arrival and the dental receptionist will promptly assist you with access to the building.

For patients with allied health appointments after 4:00pm, the provider’s number will be on the front door to call on your arrival.

We apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. This is a temporary adjustment

while we work to restore our usual staffing levels and service hours.

Myhealth Newington is a Private Billing Practice

Please note there is a Gap Fee for all consultations, unless you are under the age of 16 or hold a Health Care Card, Seniors Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card. Bulk Billing is unavailable on weekends.

About Myhealth Newington Medical Clinic

Myhealth Newington opened its doors in June 2013, having taken over Newington Family Medical Practice. Our practice is in a central area of Newington opposite the Newington marketplace shopping centre, conveniently located for local residents and businesses.

There is free 2 hour ticketed parking available over the road.

The in-house services at Myhealth Newington include pathology, physiotherapy, dietitian services, podiatry, psychology, and general surgeon consultations.

Douglas Hanley Moir Pathology: Monday – Friday 8am – 4pm, Sat 9am -12 midday

Physiotherapy: Monday- Friday 8am – 5:30 pm

Dietician: Wednesday (fortnightly) 9am – 2pm

Podiatry: Tuesday 12.30am - 5.30pm, Thursday 8am – 5pm, Saturday 8am – 2pm [monthly]

Psychology: Thursday 8:30am – 6pm and Telehealth at flexible times that can be organised with the psychologist.

General Surgeon: Friday (fortnightly) 10am - 4pm

Please do not present to the practice in-person if you have COVID-19 and instead book a Telehealth consultation. For patients with any cold or flu symptoms (e.g. runny nose, congestion, sore throat, cough, fever), you will be asked to wear a mask in the clinic.

Our practice nurse is available from 8am-4pm weekdays for childhood immunisations and procedures. Certain procedures incur a gap fee that reception or the doctor can advise you prior to your booking. Consultations are generally by appointment only, we will try our best to accommodate walk-in consultations however if all doctors are fully booked you may be asked to return at another time if there is no availability.

Myhealth Newington will improve access to bulk billing services for eligible patients from October 2023, in-line with Federal Government’s MyMedicare program.

Eligible patients include children under 16 years old and all patients who are Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card holders. This applies to appointments provided on weekdays only. Weekend appointments will continue to be privately billed.

To qualify for bulk billing at MyHealth Newington, registration of the practice to MyMedicare Program is required. As per Medicare requirements, two face to face visits are required within the last 24 months for patients to be eligible for MyMedicare Program registration. Please be advised that parents/guardians and children can be registered at the same practice if one of them is eligible and registered at the practice.

All other patients who do not fall under the criteria for bulk-billing will continue to be privately billed as per our existing practice fee schedule, see table below.

To process payments following a Telehealth appointment you may receive an sms with a secure link to automedsystems which is our online payment system.

Please ensure you book a long appointment for multiple or complex issues so the correct time can be allocated to address all your concerns thoroughly, please be aware that standard consultation bookings are allocated 15 minutes; long consultations are allocated 30 minutes.

For childhood immunisations and procedural consultations e.g. ear syringing, implanon insertion, dressing changes please book via telephone only so reception can confirm treatment room and nurse availability.

Please ask reception if you need further clarification of practice fees or expected out of pocket expenses. Please be aware that as per Medicare rules you will need to pay for the whole consultation upfront and you will be refunded the Medicare rebate component.

If you bring your Savings or Cheque bank card you will be able to get your Medicare rebate instantly back into your account, otherwise a receipt will be provided to you for you to claim from Medicare.

Medicare automatically keeps a record of your out of pocket expenses every calendar year and once you exceed the threshold you will receive a higher rebate, with Medicare covering 80% of your out of pocket expenses/gap fees. If you register and link your family together, the gap fees for everyone will all count towards the thresholds below.

2025 Medicare Safety Nets thresholds:

Extended Medicare Safety Net (EMSN) - Concession card holders/eligible for Family Tax Benefit A:	$834.50
Extended Medicare Safety Net (EMSN) - General:	$2615.50

For example, after meeting the Medicare safety net, our standard consultation fee of $92.85 with $50.00 gap/out of pocket will be reduced to $10.00.

All non-Medicare consultations, including Work Cover and CTP are billed at current AMA rates.

Do you bulk bill?

We bulk bill eligible patients, including children under 16 years old and all patients who hold a Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card and are registered with our clinic through MyMedicare on weekdays only. Patients who do not meet the bulk-billing criteria will continue to be privately billed.

How are gap payments processed?

If you bring your Savings or Cheque bank card, your Medicare rebate can be processed instantly and returned directly to your account. Otherwise, a receipt will be provided for you to claim your rebate from Medicare. For payments following a Telehealth appointment, you may receive an SMS with a secure link to AutoMed Systems, our online payment platform.

How can I obtain a medical certificate?

You can obtain a medical certificate by booking an appointment with a doctor.

Do I need to see a GP to get a repeat script?

Yes, an appointment is required for all prescriptions, including repeat scripts.
