Dr Mohan Purshothaman



Fondly known as “Dr Mohan”, completed MBBS in 1989 the prestigious Madras Medical College in India, went on to undertake postgraduate education in Medical Microbiology at Post Graduate Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, University of Madras and completed MD in Medical Microbiology. He completed a thesis on the epidemiology of P falciparum strain of malarial parasite in the local population. Immigrated to New Zealand in the early 90’s where he worked in various fields including as an Industrial Microbiologist in charge of pathogen management systems and food safety for the dairy giant, Fonterra NZ. Here he also mentored master’s students in food technology at Massey University for industry based projects.

He worked on a research project with New Zealand Dairy Research Institute looking at bio-films and their impact on food safety. Dr Mohan bridged back to medicine undertaking courses via Otago Medical School and Wellington School of Medicine, went on to complete Fellowship training in Waikato NZ and was admitted to the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners in 2007. Dr Mohan worked in a number of rural hospitals and general practice positions as a locum where he gained vast experience in managing complex chronic disease conditions. Dr Mohan was admitted to the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners as a Fellow in 2007 where he began his career as a GP in Australia.

Having worked in various semi-rural GP practices, took ownership of Palm Beach Surgery in 2012, since then he has tirelessly worked to improve the support and care he can provide for the patients in the community by introducing various allied health services and pathology support making Palm Beach Surgery a “one stop shop”. Dr Mohan is proudly associated with Bond and Griffith University and is involved in teaching medical students. GP registrars are the future of General Practice and Dr Mohan is an accredited GP trainer to mentor future GP’s who will care for us. Dr Mohan continues to actively participate in Continuing Professional Development to keep up to date with ever changing medicine and to provide compassionate comprehensive care to his patients and joins the Myhealth Team in 2018 to continue to grow the practice.
