Dr Denis Mulkeen has worked in Ireland, England, metro Sydney and rural and remote indigenous and mining communities in Queensland. He initially trained in surgical disciplines, mainly Orthopaedics, becoming in 1999 a Member of the College of Surgeons (Ire.). This, together with further postgraduate experience and qualifications, has given rise to his special interest fields. A GP since 2004, he remains enthused about the GP’s role as a specialist in preventive medicine and in the promotion of health screening (including executive health), exercise & wellness exercise programming for people of all age groups, from all walks of life.

Denis is especially fond of Occupational Medicine and being involved in assisting return of injured workers to their roles. As a youth he spent much of his school and university holidays working in the agricultural and construction industries and therefore has had unique valuable first hand experience of physical labour and the demands of such work. His surgical background, knowledge of musculoskeletal anatomy, injuries and their management, have all proven useful in this regard. He is fortunate to enjoy the support of a broad network of skilled allied health, surgical and radiological professionals and regularly attends education events and ongoing training orientated to his special interest fields.
